Grapes
Hardy grape varieties are available for the Twin Cities area.
Grapes need full sun and a warm location. A south-facing slope or the south side of a building is ideal. Sandy loam soils enriched with organic matter promote good growth and development of grapes.
Plant grapes three-to-four feet apart along a trellis system with two or three wires for support. Prune grapes in late Winter or early Spring, before growth starts. Prune grapes to a single upright stem with a side branch in each direction to be tied to the wires of the trellis.
Buds should be evenly distributed on the canes for a total of 40 buds. This will ensure maximum production of grapes.
