Fresh Cut Christmas Trees & Holiday Greens       Bookmark and Share

Bachman’s offers a wide variety of Christmas trees and holiday greens for your decorating desires. Fresh trees and greens are harvested from tree farms in North America; spruce tops are harvested from bog areas and are regulated by the state of Minnesota and Canada. Unlike permanent trees and greens, all fresh greens are eco-friendly, a renewable resource and 100% biodegradable.

Care Tips for Christmas Trees & Holiday Greens
Christmas Trees
events & seminars If you can't bring it inside right away, place it in a cool gararge or on the north side of the house.
events & seminars Make a fresh cut on the tree trunk at least one inch from the bottom.
events & seminars Place tree in a water stand 1-2 hours after cutting.
events & seminars Keep tree in an appropriate location away from heat sources such as heat registers, radiators, space heaters, fireplaces or stoves.
events & seminars Add warm, not boiling, water to the stand with tree preservative to extend the freshness of the tree.
events & seminars Monitor the water level daily to ensure the bottom of the tree trunk stays submersed in water. Trees may absorb up to a gallon of moisture every day.
Holiday Greens
events & seminars Make a fresh cut at the end of the greens at least one inch from the bottom of the branch.
events & seminars For use indoors:
Place stem in water; arrange as desired.
Monitor the water level of the arrangement daily to ensure the bottom of the branch is submersed in water.
events & seminars For use outdoors:
Place stem in a container of soil.
Keep soil moist until the planter is frozen.

Christmas Tree Selection
Freshness is the most important factor when choosing a fresh cut tree. To determine if a tree is fresh:
events & seminars
Look for trees that appear green and most. If you see trees that look dry or are browning, this is a sign that they have been cut too early.
events & seminars
Smell for fragrance. Most fresh Christmas trees will have a strong, identifiable scent. (Except Scotch Pine.)
events & seminars
Check for needle drop. Run a branch through a gloved hand or gently shake or drop the tree. If needles drop without excessive force, look for a healthier tree with less needle drop.
events & seminars
Select between "field-run" or "premium" trees. A field-run tree is occasionally sheared while growing in the field. A premium tree is sheared heavily. The more shearing, the more branching occurs, thus making a fuller, denser tree.

Tree & Spruce Top Delivery
Bachman’s offers full service design and delivery of spruce tops. We can also deliver and place your Christmas tree in a stand. For trees delivered already mounted in a stand, the water has been removed for transportation. Please add water and a quarter cup of rubbing alcohol to the reservoir once placed in your home. (Fees for design and delivery vary. Ask a store employee for details.)

Live Christmas Trees
Occasionally, our customers see articles or news reports that encourage them to use live, potted or balled-and-burlapped evergreens for Christmas trees that they can then plant outside after the holidays. While a good idea for appropriate climates, this is not practical in Minnesota. The trees will break their winter dormancy indoors and will likely not survive outdoors after the holidays. For that reason, Bachman’s does not offer living Christmas trees.
